You’re in pain. Perhaps you’ve had a recent surgery, or perhaps you’re trying to avoid surgery. Whatever the case, you need help and you need it now. Advanced Family Medicine is pleased to provide pain management services, drawing upon scientific principles to prevent, diagnose, and treat chronic pain. With our care program, our specialists identify the source of neck and back pain and provide treatment options best suited to address the issue and provide relief.
There are different approaches to pain management. Noninvasive non-drug management (such as exercise), medications, and invasive pain management (injections). The best results with any approach will necessarily hinge upon the patient’s complete dedication to the program.
Joint injections are often conducted every three to four months to provide relief from arthritis. The most common injection comes in the form of a cortisone shot, which works to reduce inflammation and preserve joint structure and function. This treatment can be effective for months at a time, though it isn’t for everyone. To determine if you’re a good fit for injection treatment, we will factor in your overall health, age, physical activity, and any other medications you might be on.
Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) is another approach to pain management. This is a hands-on technique where an osteopathic physician manipulates muscles and joints through stretches, applying gentle pressure or resistance, treating structural and tissue abnormalities, relieve joint restriction and misalignment, restore muscle/tissue balance, and improve blood flow throughout the body.
While muscle pain is the most common reason to seek out OMT, the treatment is effective for other concerns, such as asthma, sinus disorders, migraines, carpal tunnel, and even menstrual pain.
